Tis the season to start decorating for fall. The weather is getting a little cooler and the holiday time is right around the corner. This charming little fall pumpkin can be on display for Halloween and Thanksgiving. I have been wanting to do this project for some time now. I’ve seen the videos on Facebook, and they made it look so easy. I couldn’t help but add my own little VGK flare to mine.

Supplies
14-20 Canning Jar Lids
Black Spray Paint
Hot Glue Gun and Extra Glue Sticks
Scissors or Rotary Cutter, Cutting Mat, and Plastic Ruler
VGK Cotton Fabric
Floral Wire, Twine, or Ribbon
Craft Sticks or Cinnamon Sticks
Mini Twinkle Lights (Optional)
You can find all these supplies at Joann’s and Walmart.
Step One: Painting Lids
I worried about this step more than I needed to. I thought the lids needed to be fully coated and with multiple coats, but one coat is good enough. Later, when you tie the lids together the paint will chip off a bit, but you are going to cover the outside in fabric.
Lay your lids on a safe surface (cardboard or newspaper) in a well-ventilated area. Coat with one coat of spray paint, let dry, flip lids over, and coat the opposite side with one coat of spray paint. I had yellow craft sticks, so I sprayed those as well. You can use a wood stick from outside or cinnamon sticks are popular as well.
Step Two: Cutting Fabric
Cut your fabric strips 10 inches by ½ inch long. This will give you a perfect length to go around the lid and overlap some. I used my cutting mat, plastic ruler, and rotary cutter. The strips came out straight, and the process was extremely fast. Scissors can also be used to cut the strips.
Step Three: Gluing
Place a small amount of glue to the side of one lid and stick the end of one fabric strip to it.
Add a line of glue and secure the fabric as you spin the lid around.
Repeat this process on all the lids.
Next, glue your craft sticks together to make the pumpkin stem.
Step Four: Forming the Pumpkin
String your canning lids together with your floral wire, twine, or ribbon. I loosely wrapped the floral wire around my first lid and then added the lids one by one facing them all in the same direction.
Next you will want to twist the two ends together, leaving the lids loose enough to add the craft sticks in the center of the pumpkin. I liked the floral wire because you can always adjust by twisting a little tighter or looser.
If you want to add lights to the inside of the pumpkin, you would do it now, before you spread the lids out.
I found the hardest part of this project was getting the lids to spread out and form the pumpkin shape. My advice would be to make sure all the lids are interlocking.
Step Five: Embellishments
Decorating your pumpkin can be up to you. You can glue the craft sticks in the middle of the pumpkin and be done, OR if you want, you can add ribbon, tulle, or fabric cut out leaves. I thought it might be cute to add Halloween ribbon and orange embellishments for Halloween time. There are so many different options, you might find yourself creating a little pumpkin patch of your own.
