The Vegas Golden Knights came out like a pack of hungry wolves and wasted no time in taking a bite out of the Sharks to tie the series 1 to 1.
Vegas fans exploded in cheer when, within the first 58 seconds of the game, Cody Eakin flared the puck to the back of the net with a high-shot. Nipping at the fins, Colin Miller added to the lead with a shorthanded goal followed by Max Pacioretty who strengthened the lead only a minute and half after Miller. Though Flower was a steady wall the majority of the game, the Sharks managed to slither a few pucks in late first period and tie the game 3 to 3.
Second period the Knights licked their wounds and Mark Stone took another bite out of the Sharks during a power-pay which put the team back in the lead. Fast and furious the pack kept the Sharks at bay the remainder of the period.
In the final period, William Karlsson, with a shorthanded goal, gave the Knights the upper hand which held for a win 5 to 3.
Notable mention to McNabb who saved two goals, one of which, he swatted down from the air like the famed US soccer goalie, Tim Howard.
After the hair-raising game came to an end Gallant stated, “It’s one game at a time here. You want to win as many games early in the series as you can. If we come home on the plane tonight tied 1-1, we will have achieved the cliché of ‘we came for a split and that’s what we got.'”
